Upper Austrian Culture Prize for Architecture

Publisher: afo architekturforum oberösterreich,  Direktion Kultur des Landes Oberösterreich

Landscape portrait – portrait landscape

In order to recognise achievements in building culture in the range of disciplines, Upper Austria first awarded a culture prize for architecture in 1978. After 35 years, it seemed appropriate to include all the hitherto distinguished buildings in an architectural landscape portrait, an Upper Austrian portrait landscape. The prizes are more than simply gestures of appreciation. Considered over a longer period, they constitute significant milestones in an architectural development. The artistic installation of the exhibition in the "afo architekturforum oö" offers for the first time a survey of the whole range of original work and approaches of the award-winning architects. This publication, which accompanies the exhibition, raises questions that go beyond the actual building achievements. In one-to-one interviews, the people behind the works comment on subjects such as: What motivates you? What are the greatest challenges in your profession? What links you with your colleagues? And not least: What do you see as the future tasks of architecture?
